The Norwegian Women’s coach Svein Tore Samdal and the national team women have agreed to continue with the extreme periodization (of intervals) in the training program. The program will now be even more specialized and focused than last year. We feel this is a good way for us to do things, says coach Samdal.
 and Steinar Mundal were skeptical and warned young skiers about copying Samdal’s program. The person responsible for endurance training in Norwegian elite sport (Olympiatoppen), former pro cyclist, Atle Kvalsvoll did the same. The critics were especially tough on the first hard training period done by the national team. A high number of interval sessions were done in a short time frame. Besides the critics, Samdal’s program was also viewed with curiosity by the public, and some also thought he might succeed.</p>
<p>“We are not going to repeat the first hard period the way we did it last year. That was a project,” explains Samdal.</p>
<p>Max VO2 increased a lot following this period, but the fall tests were not as good. Samdal says that the reason for this was that fall test were done on rollerskis (on a treadmill) and that the tests should have been organized better. Lac of sufficient data also made it hard to evaluate and compare to previous results.<br />
