Northug’s Soccer Career Gets a Red Card

After experiencing some problems with his one of his knees, Petter Northug’s soccer career has come to an end.

Earlier this summer, Petter Northug injured one of his knees, which worsened during a block of hard training, according to Norwegian national team coach Morten Aa Djupvik. He had symptoms during intervals last week, and then felt we needed to have studied this in a proper manner, Djupvik said to NRK, a Norwegian television station.

Northug has long struggled with a knee trouble, and was forced to take it easy for a few weeks.

However, yesterday’s physical with team doctor Knut Gabrielson gave no reason for concern, and showed that he was ready to resume hard training.

“The knee is quite unproblematic in terms of continuing training,” said Petter’s father John Northug to Adresseavisen, a Norwegian newspaper.

However, life as a soccer player for the Mosvik team is over.

“I think Petter has been given a red card by the doctor for football, and that his career is over,” John Northug said.
