    Saint Michael’s College Seeks Assistant Nordic Coach

    The Saint Michael’s College Nordic ski team is looking for an assistant coach for the 2026-27 season. The start date is flexible, though the ideal candidate would begin in mid-September and stay on through mid-March.

    Saint Michael’s College is a fully residential liberal arts college in Colchester, Vermont. An NCAA Division II institution, Saint Mike’s competes as a member of the Eastern Intercollegiate Ski Association (EISA).

    Responsibilities:

    • Assist the head coach in planning and running training sessions in both fall dryland and winter on-snow practices. This includes driving vans, recording film sessions, providing nutrition, testing and recording skier data, and ensuring student-athlete safety.
    • Guide student-athletes at training sessions and races so they can compete at their highest level.
    • Help the head coach and athletes with race preparation, including transportation, nutrition, and testing and waxing skis.
    • Learn the recruiting database and help identify qualified student-athletes for the SMC ski program.
    • Assist with team operations such as booking travel, managing lodging logistics, wax inventory, equipment repairs and orders, and more.
    • Manage and develop the team’s social media presence.
    • Help keep the Kelley Ski Center, team vans, and equipment clean and well-maintained.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications:

    • Competitive Nordic skiing experience.
    • Two or more years of high school and/or collegiate coaching experience.
    • USSS L100 coaching certification, or the ability to obtain L100 status.
    • Knowledge of NCAA Division II rules and policies.
    • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively.
    • Ability to perform a wide variety of manual labor for extended periods, often in adverse weather conditions.
    • A valid driver’s license. Successful completion of a Motor Vehicle Records (MVR) check is a condition of employment for driving college vehicles and transporting students.

    This is a part-time position with a flexible schedule, and it includes one free class at Saint Michael’s College each semester. The role is compensated through a stipend, with a range of $9,000 to $12,000 depending on experience.

    The Crosscut Mountain Sports Center is now welcoming applications for an assistant coach.

    The purpose of this position is to assist current coaching staff in the workload associated with

    running an Elite Team with high-performing cross country, biathlon, and adaptive nordic

    athletes, while managing overall program responsibilities.

     

    Crosscut Mountain Sports Center is a community non-profit dedicated to conserving the 500+

    acres adjacent to Bridger Bowl Ski Area as a year-round recreation, sports training and

    educational facility for all ages and abilities. In 2019-2020, Crosscut ran nordic programming for

    over 60 local athletes, received 12 invitations for international competitions, and reached over

    21,000 guest visits.

     

    This position has the potential to be flexible based on the applicant’s experience and interests.

    The coach will assist with running weekly programming in Bozeman, Covid dependent travel,

    and have the opportunity to explore personal coaching interests.

    Overview

    SNSC is a non-profit organization based in Summit County, CO focused on developing young athletes. Programs include summer training, fall rollerskiing, winter training and race programs, year-round strength training all with an aim to develop high level Nordic athletes. Athletes ages five and older participate in SNSC programs and come from Buena Vista, Kremling, Golden, Leadville and throughout Summit County.

    SNSC is experiencing a period of rapid growth and change as the organization evolves from a small, parent run winter ski program into a large, complex program creating some of the best Nordic skiers in the country. As SNSC grows so does the need for high-level coaches to help train the next generation of U.S. Nordic skiers. SNSC is seeking an experienced and high level assistant coach to help grow existing programs, create new programming to address member’s needs, and to ensure that all SNSC athletes have access to excellent coaching, training plans, and race day support.

    Full-time Assistant Coach:

    The Assistant Coach for SNSC will be primarily responsible for coaching the Comp Team (U16-U20 athletes) while also contributing to both the Devo (U12-U14) and Prep programs (U08-U12). This position directly reports to the Head Coach. This is a year-round position with in-person coaching sessions between June 1st and March 31st each year. The Assistant Coach will collaborate with the Head Coach on training planning and session design. Other duties will include but not be limited to: race day coaching, waxing and ski testing, pre race ski waxing, strength coaching, athlete transport (in county and traveling to races), helping to maintain wax and hardgood inventories and ski fleets, communication with athletes and parents, attendance and participation at SNSC events and fundraisers, developing additional programs and initiatives, interacting with and occasionally reporting to SNSC Board of Trustees, assisting with promoting SNSC’s programs at activity fairs, etc.

    The Assistant Coach must be a strong skier and roller skier with significant experience in waxing race skis and providing race day coaching to athletes. The Assistant Coach will need to be able to lead dryland and snow based training sessions at high altitude. High-level racing or coaching (collegiate or equivalent) background is preferred. Must be able to pass a background check and have a clean driving record.

    Position Details:

    Starting date is June 1, 2018

    The Summit Nordic Ski Club (SNSC) is one of Colorado’s fastest growing youth ski programs and serves Summit County, Colorado (Breckenridge, Frisco, Silverthorne, Keystone and Dillon). SNSC has a top-notch coaching staff and is looking to recruit one more. We have five winter programs and are looking for an assistant coach to primarily help with our Devo Program (ages 11-13). Olof Hedberg is the Head Coach for SNSC and is responsible for training plan design and overseeing the entire program and coaching staff. This position would report directly to the Head Coach. Assistant coaches are on the front line working with athletes to help them achieve their individual goals from Olympic hopefuls to kids who enjoy being outside and want to improve their Nordic technique.

    SNSC is a relatively small organization which makes it feel more like a family. Our athletes and families are a fantastic group of people. We hope to find an excellent coach to join our community and help our club continue to grow.

    The Assistant Coach position is currently seasonal (October – March) and part time, but has the potential for full time work over the winter. There is also potential to extend the job into our summer programs. Our Devo program meets 4 days per week and has four main race weekends (travel Thursday/Friday and return Sunday) over the winter.

    Our ideal candidate will have a love for Nordic skiing, experience working with kids and a generally positive and energetic attitude. Strong knowledge of Nordic technique and training principles are also important.

    ●  Has a background in high-level Nordic racing
    ●  USSA Level 100 Coach
    ●  Is a proficient roller skier (able to ski with athletes over varied terrain and long distances)

    Aspen Valley Ski & Snowboard Club (AVSC) in Aspen, Colo., is seeking a assistant Nordic coach for the 2017-18 season. This is a full-time position running from June-March. AVSC offers programs for student-athletes throughout the Roaring Fork Valley, in grades 1-12 as well as a Post-Graduate program.

    AVSC was founded in 1937 by a group of passionate skiers who wanted to spread the sport to the local community. Eighty years later, as the valley’s oldest and largest youth non-profit, AVSC has taught generations of local children the very sports that revitalized the Aspen/Snowmass area. Through AVSC, children and teens experience the mountains in winter, build character, challenge themselves and make new friends.

    The Department of Athletics at the University of Alaska Fairbanks is seeking applicants to fill the position for the Assistant Coach for the Men’s and Women’s Nordic Ski Teams. The Alaska Nanook Ski Team competes in the Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Ski Association and frequently has all-american level performances at the NCAA Championships. UAF is the ideal place to be a nordic skiing enthusiast with groomed trails right outside the door on the UAF campus and a quick 15 minute drive to the world class Birch Hill Facility. There is consistently good groomed skiing from late October/early November to late March/early April each year.

    Comp Team Assistant Coach: 

    PCNSC is seeking a part-time assistant Comp Team coach. The Comp Team is a year-round training program for high school age athletes. Responsibilities may include but are not limited to implementing and/or participating in a variety of workouts including rollerskiing, running, mountain biking, skiing and weight lifting; attending and driving to/from camps and competitions; and applying glide and kick wax.

    Candidate must have good communication and leadership skills. Prior coaching and/or racing experience preferred but not required.  USSA Level 100 coaching certification must be obtained by December 1, 2016.

    Kickers and Gliders Lead Coach:

    PCNSC is seeking a lead coach to run the Kickers and Gliders program for winter 2016-17. Kickers and Gliders is an after school cross-country ski program for 50-70 youth ages 7-10. This is a 13 week position from December to mid-March. Responsibilities include lesson planning and implementation, group organization, communication, and rental equipment management.

    Candidate must have excellent organization, communication, and leadership skills. Prior coaching and/or racing experience preferred but not required.  USSA Level 100 coaching certification must be obtained by December 1, 2016.

    Nordic Ski Club of Fairbanks’ Fairbanks Cross Country (NSCF-FXC) junior racing program is looking for an assistant coach to begin work this summer.

    Our team has been steadily growing and improving since its inception in 2006; the program currently engages more than 120 athletes on an annual basis and qualified 17 athletes to Junior Nationals and Arctic Winter Games this season.

    Athletes in the FXC racing program are split among three tiers and the prospective coach would work with all groups over the course of the year, although primary responsibilities would be with the Jr. Devo (late elementary) and Comp Team (high school and post-graduate).  This position could also be involved in a potential expansion of our masters program.

    The assistant coach is a year-round position and generally involves 5-6 days and 20-30 hours of work per week, although additional hours are required at busier times of year.  The starting wage is $19/hr ($20/hr with completion of USSA L100 coaches certification).  The coaching schedule can allow for additional employment within the local ski community (high school coaching, lessons, grooming, etc.) and the Fairbanks community at large.  The University of Alaska offers a wide variety of college and graduate level courses at its Fairbanks campus for those wishing to further their education.

    The ideal candidate would have raced at the collegiate level or higher, be enthusiastic about and have experience coaching or working with youth, possess excellent communication and organization skills, and be able to complete miscellaneous projects in a timely manner with minimal oversight.  The assistant coach must be able to pass a background check and possess a valid driver’s license.  If not already certified, it would be expected that the candidate completes the USSA Level 100 certification within 90 days of hire (with educational costs to be covered).
