Love skiing? Love writing? Looking for a job that combines the two? FasterSkier needs you!

The FasterSkier team is looking to grow with the addition of part-time reporters: highly motivated and self-driven individuals with strong writing skills and a thorough understanding of nordic racing, who will work remotely while reporting on various levels and topics relating to the nordic-skiing world.

Perhaps the best part of this job is the potential for travel. Committed and proven reporters can expect to travel to one or more events throughout the 2015/2016 race season, including but not limited to the U.S. SuperTours in Montana, Idaho and Vermont, as well as U.S. nationals in Michigan, the American Birkebeiner in Wisconsin, and perhaps best of all, one or more of the Canada World Cups in Ottawa, Montreal, Quebec City, and Canmore.

Part-time reporters are expected to manage their time and tasks on a weekly basis, with an expectation of working about 10 hours per week in the offseason (now through October) and revving up to a more weekend-based position, requiring at least 20 hours a week, during the race season (mid-November through March). While covering events on site and in person, reporters are expected to work full time to complete all assignments.

Clear and efficient writing is a must, and reporters should have the ability to produce well-crafted stories on a tight schedule — often within a few hours of a race.

Candidates should have a strong interest and desire to cover most elite domestic and international races (in the U.S. and Canada, and internationally) throughout the 2015/2016 season from the comfort of their own homes. A computer and reliable internet are a must.

Compensation will be paid in monthly installments and can be discussed upon inquiry. Ideal candidates should be able to start as soon as possible, possess a strong knowledge of nordic ski racing, as well as social awareness and interview skills, and be able to write effectively and efficiently on deadline while thoroughly proofreading all work. Keen communication skills are key as much of this job involves email and phone interviews, as well as frequent email check-ins and conversations with coworkers.

Reporters will work with an editor on all tasks and projects, and will be expected to produce several articles per week while assisting other FS team members as needed.

Event Director Needed for 2016 Equinox Ski Challenge
Job Opening: Event director for the 2016 Equinox Ski Challenge.

Event Description: The Equinox Ski Challenge is a Nordic ski event that has been held since 2007 in West Yellowstone, MT. The race is open to skiers of all ages and abilities and has 3, 6, 12, and 24 Hour divisions which all can be entered by soloists or relay teams. The event was founded on commitments to contributing to the local community, challenging participants physically and also having a high level of camaraderie between all participants. Every year, the event donates food and funds to several local organizations, sees numerous personal records set, and has an all night potluck/bonfire with lots of laughter. The event has attracted more participants each year, with 120 skiers attending skiers in 2014 and continually receives praise for its unique atmosphere. The Equinox Ski Challenge is the only 24 Hour Nordic race in the Rocky Mountain region and one of only two such events in North America. Location: The event is held in West Yellowstone, Montana. The job can be done remotely with a few visits to West Yellowstone. Being active in the West Yellowstone community on a regular basis is very advantageous.

Time commitment: 5 hours per week in Oct-Dec. 10-15 hours per week Jan-April.

Dates: October 1, 2015 to April 15, 2016. Event is scheduled for March 19 and 20, 2016.

Responsibilities:
- 35% Race production including registration, course marking, timing, awards.
- 30% Arrange sponsorship agreements and collect donations from sponsors.
- 20% Print and distribute registration and promotional material.
- 5% Maintain event website.
- 5% Coordinate event volunteers.
Benefits: The real benefits are seeing racers smiling after skiing farther than they ever have or harder then they ever have, seeing the Food Bank pick up their annual donation we collect, seeing kids enjoy a ski race and seeing participants face themselves on the race course and then chat with each other around the bonfire about what it was like.

Pay depends on experience and will include a base rate plus a percentage of the net income.

MBSEF Seeking Assistant Coach
The Mt. Bachelor Sports Education Foundation (MBSEF) is seeking an Assistant Nordic Coach to lead, motivate, educate and provide direction to athletes/ members of the MBSEF Nordic program and assist the Nordic Director in all facets of the Nordic Program, including Collegiate Programs, Masters Programs, U18/U16 racing programs, Middle School, Youth, and Biathlon.

Job Qualifications: Practical knowledge of current cross-country techniques and training methods. Assistant coach must have proficiency with wax selection and application, an aptitude for equipment repair and selection, and a working knowledge of video equipment. In addition to coaching duties, the assistant coach will be expected to perform various office duties which requires some basic computer skills, good communication skills and some office work experience.

Primary Responsibilities
- Contribute to a positive and motivating environment to foster a lifelong love for the sport of cross country skiing
- Works to support the vision, mission and philosophy of MBSEF
- Assists head coach with Full-time, Winter Term and Middle School program athletes including collegiate athletes
- Travel with selected MBSEF teams
- Help design schedules and training programs
- Instruct Master skiers in MBSEF program
- Assist Director with organization and execution of MBSEF citizen races
- Supports staff and racers at local races
- Attend various staff/program meetings
Secondary Responsibilities
- Assist with some MBSEF fundraising events
- Help to maintain the integrity of the MBSEF Nordic as well as all other programs and activities of MBSEF
Reporting Responsibilities
- Reports to Nordic Program Director for all matters relating to the Nordic Program

Crested Butte Nordic Seeks Recreational Programs Coordinator

Recreational Programs Coordinator

The Crested Butte Nordic Team, located in Crested Butte, CO, is accepting resumes for the position of Recreational Programs Coordinator. This is a part-time, seasonal position running from November-March. Job responsibilities include planning and leading practices for youth skiers in cross-country skiing and biathlon, as well as assisting with team fundraisers and supporting the team at other events. Applicants should be able to demonstrate experience in Nordic sports and youth programming. Qualified applicants will also show enthusiasm for the competitive and non-competitive sides of Nordic sports.

The Crested Butte Nordic Team is a non-profit ski club with roughly eighty participants, offering programming for skiers ages 5-19. Salary range is $6,000-$7,000 depending on experience.
