The successful candidate will oversee all aspects of a year-round program, from training and competition to recruiting and budget management, while building meaningful relationships with student-athletes and the broader campus community.

    Responsibilities

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree required
    • Minimum five seasons of coaching Nordic skiing at the collegiate, professional, Olympic, or club level (competitive experience at the collegiate, national, or Olympic level will count toward this requirement)
    • US Ski and Snowboard L100 coach’s certification required
    • Current CPR and Basic First Aid certifications
    • Must meet Saint Michael’s College driver eligibility requirements
    • Familiarity with Microsoft Office and ARMS recruiting database
    • Strong communication and problem-solving skills across a range of audiences

    The Head Men’s and Women’s Skiing Coach provides comprehensive leadership and oversight for all aspects of UAF’s Nordic skiing programs within the Department of Athletics. This position is responsible for coaching and program development, student-athlete recruitment, supervision and mentorship of assistant coaches, and fostering a culture that promotes academic success, personal growth, and competitive excellence. The role supports student-athlete welfare, ensures compliance with NCAA, conference, and university policies, and contributes to the department through community engagement, fundraising, and responsible program administration. Working collaboratively with athletics staff and campus partners, the position advances the mission of the department by developing successful student-athletes and promoting the university through competitive achievement and community connection.

    To thrive in this role, the successful candidate will demonstrate strong leadership, organization, and communication skills while fostering a positive, inclusive, and high-performance team culture. The individual must be able to effectively balance coaching excellence with administrative responsibilities, recruiting strategy, and student-athlete academic support.     Minimum Qualifications:

    Bachelor’s degree in exercise science, exercise physiology, or kinesiology. Valid driver’s license required. Master’s degree in exercise science, exercise physiology, or kinesiology preferred.

     

    Position Details:

    This is a full-time, term-funded, exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and https://www.alaska.edu/hr/benefits/support/prospectiveemployees.php. UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, annual leave, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental and vision care coverage.   • BOULDER NORDIC JUNIOR RACING TEAM HEAD COACH

    Overview

    The Boulder Nordic Junior Racing Team (BNJRT) is a team based in Boulder, CO which has been training 8-19 year old athletes for more than 35 years as part of the USSA Rocky Mountain West division. With an average of 60 athletes per season, BNJRT is focused on providing an environment that fosters a lifelong love for the sport of Nordic skiing. Many athletes have the opportunity to compete at the national level while others view Nordic skiing as a great way to train for other sports. Either way, BNJRT prides itself on its “family” environment where support for all ages and abilities is encouraged to optimize the success of all athletes.

    Position Summary

    The primary responsibility of head coach will be for setting the overall training schedule for U16+ skiers and assisting with growth and development of skiers at the U14, U12, U10 levels as well as hiring, training, managing and supervising assistant coaches to run a successful Nordic ski program which both allows athletes the chance to compete at the highest levels and enjoy the sport.

    Essential Duties

    • Contribute to a positive environment to foster a lifelong love for the sport of Nordic skiing

    • Foster an inclusive and cohesive team dynamic among athletes and coaches

    • Be an active learner, communicate well and motivate youth skiers

    Team Organization & Management & Communications

    • Report to the BNJRT Board of Directors at monthly board meetings

    • Participate in budgeting process with Board, provide timely and accurate accounting of team-related expenses, and adhere to approved budget

    • Responsible for internal and external marketing communications (to the press, website, team blog) in conjunction with parent volunteer

    • Responsible for providing website updates, maintaining team blog and team training calendar

    • Generate timely and excellent communications with skiers and their parents, including weekly emails regarding training location, schedule, and focus for each age group

    • Help athletes set goals, review progress towards goals throughout the season and provide written feedback/report to parents

    • Responsible for waxing equipment, ski team equipment and team rental gear

    • Assist with BNJRT fundraising and outreach events

    Racing/Training

    • Responsible for U16+ athletes; work with head devo coach to oversee training for all age groups

    • Responsible for all aspects of JNQ race weekends including race entries, waxing, coaches, athlete management, transportation

    • Attend Junior Nationals as part of RMN staff

    • Attend U.S. Nationals (depends on interest level of BNJRT skiers)

    • Communicate with skiers and their parents, including weekly emails regarding training location, schedule and priorities for each age group

    • Development and management of weekly, monthly, and annual training schedules and plans for all BNJRT athletes, including use of Training Peaks or other training software

    • Responsible for supervision, leadership, training, and oversight of the coaching staff and implementation of training

    • Coach skiers of all age groups with a technique focus – using extensive knowledge of classic and skate techniques with the ability to communicate technique to the athletes

    • Conduct fall dry-land training sessions and the winter ski training sessions

    Tentative team training schedule

    • Winter – on snow, Dec. – Apr.

    • Preseason – dryland, Sept. – Nov.

    • Spring/summer – dryland, May – Aug. – compensation is in addition to contract payment

    Minimum Qualifications 

    • Competitive race experience with extensive knowledge of classic and skate technique

    • 3 or more years of coaching experience preferred

    • Driver’s license – clean record; experience towing a trailer helpful

    • CPR/First Aid

    • Minimum Level 100 USSA Cross Country Certification

    Caledonia Nordic Seeks Head Coach

    The Caledonia Nordic Ski Club is seeking a highly motivated and skilled coach available for full time employment effective September, 2018. This position offers an annually renewable contract with fair compensation package. Compensation is based on experience, abilities, coaching certifications.

    Caledonia Nordic Ski Club (“CNSC”) is an organization of over 1,500 members in Prince George, British Columbia and has a large enrolment in skier development programs. Club athletes compete and medal in both cross country and biathlon Provincial and regional competitions, NORAM events and National Championships. They have also represented Canada at high-level events such as the World Youth Junior Championships. As the Head Coach, you will lead volunteer coaches in the implementation of the Cross Country and Biathlon Long-Term AthleteDevelopment Models (“LTAD”) through program development, support andinvolvement. Our club mandate is to provide programming for the continual improvement of skiers and biathletes from introduction to national excellence, for all ages and abilities.

    The Head Coach will report directly to the General Manager, overseeing the training of club volunteer coaches and Skill Development athletes and CNSC Junior/Biathlon Development Teams. The Head Coach will work under the guidance of the Program Directors, Programs Committee and the General Manager. This individual will work alongside the SDP Coordinator who performs much of the administrative duties. The Head Coach will be expected to attend regularly scheduled meetings of the Programs Committee as well as staff meetings when not in conflict with other work duties.

    The Head Coach will have primary responsibility for direct delivery of athlete training at the Junior/Biathlon Development Team level and the training and development of volunteer coaches. The hours of the Head Coach are seasonal full-time from September through April with reduced hours in the spring and summer.

    Dublin School, an intentionally small 9-12 co-ed college preparatory boarding school located in beautiful, rural southwestern N.H., seeks a Mathematics Teacher and Nordic Coach to join our community.

    As a residential boarding school, employees are expected to fill multiple roles. The successful candidate for this position would be expected to teach four sections of mathematics, coach Nordic in the winter, and perform dorm duty and serve a regular rotation on a duty team. Dublin is looking for a candidate with a passion for mathematics and integrated science education.

    Dublin’s 160 students are required to participate in a range of competitive athletic and other afternoon activities. These include alpine skiing, basketball, crew, cross country running, dance, equestrian, lacrosse, mountain biking, Nordic skiing, sailing, snowboarding, soccer, tennis, and ultimate. We have particular strength in endurance athletics.

    Situated in the highest village in New England with perfect weather and landscape for training, Dublin has the resources to support every level of athlete. We have over 15 miles of trails on our 400-acre campus including the first high school Nordic ski course in the world to receive a certificate of homologation from The International Ski Federation (FIS) allowing Dublin to host international Nordic ski events. With over 600 feet of vertical gain on campus, our trails can create any level of challenge for biking, running and skiing.

    Cross-country skiing has enjoyed a renaissance at Dublin School with the team growing to over 30 student-athletes. The Boys’and Girls’ Team won the Lakes Region Championships in 2017 and the Boys’ were 2017 New England Champions as well. Our fully homologated Nordic Center is one of the most enjoyable and exciting ski venues in the east. The trails reach 1800 feet above sea level, face north, and receive and retain significant snowfall.

    The School recently completed a brand new Outing Club that has ski storage, waxing rooms, a ski lodge, and a new trail to the Nordic Center from the front door. When not out skiing the trails, running up Mount Monadnock or roller skiing by lakes on the beautiful back-roads of southern New Hampshire, the team uses the Whitney gymnasium for strength and circuit training.

    USCSA EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR JOB DESCRIPTION

    Job title: Executive Director
    Reports to: Executive Board

    Job purpose

    The Executive Director, in partnership with the Board of Directors (BoD) is responsible for the Association’s a) consistent achievement of its mission and goals, b) ensuring its leadership within the collegiate snow sports community and c) maintaining accountability to its members.

    The Board of Directors delegates responsibility for the management and day-to-day operation of the Association to the Executive Director and she / he has the authority to carry out these responsibilities in accordance with the direction and policies established by the BoD.

     

    Duties and Responsibilities

    Leadership

    Provide strategic leadership in the development and growth of the USCSA, including creating strategic and annual operating plans, progressively advancing the Association’s strategic goals and objectives and ensuring the successful delivery of its programming.

    • Ensure the Association has a long-range strategy which achieves its mission and toward which it makes consistent and timely progress.
    • Understand and consistently / actively represent the opinions and concerns of the USCSA members to partners and stakeholders through the appropriate channels.
    • Actively engage with the members of the USCSA and snow sports community to ensure the organization is current and proactive at all times.
    • Build and proactively maintain all USCSA partnerships through ongoing dialogue, information exchange and goodwill to enable the Association to work towards its goals in an atmosphere of integrity, openness, inclusivity and mutual respect.
    • Ensure the appropriate environment for schools, athletes and volunteers to engage in the activities of the Association.
    • Represent and speak on behalf of the USCSA to athletes, volunteers, vendors, donors and corporate sponsors and other partners / stakeholders in the media and at meetings, conferences and events.

    Operational Planning and Management

    Efficiently and effectively manage the daily operations of the USCSA to fully achieve its mission and maximize value to all members and stakeholders.

    • In consultation with the BoD, lead the development and implementation of an annual operating plan that aligns with and advances the Association’s short and long-term objectives.
    • In consultation with the BoD, develop annual and forecasted budgets to support execution of the operating plan and delivery of each program, event and special project. Ensure the organization operates within approved budget guidelines.
    • Oversee the planning, implementation and evaluation of programs, events and special projects. Ensure they are delivered as planned and on budget.
    • Develop and maintain sound organizational and financial practices in accordance with appropriate legislation, tax policy and best practices for nonprofit organizations.
    • Determine staffing/contractor requirements for effective organizational management and program delivery.
    • Provide support and direction to conference/division coordinators. Conduct annual evaluations for all coordinators and work with BoD regarding any issues of accountability.

    Administrative

    Ensure the appropriate environment for a) athletes, volunteers and staff/contractors to engage in the activities of the Association, b) the effective function of the Board of Directors and c) the efficient operation of high-quality programs and events.

    • Provide administrative and management support to the BoD, ensuring that all activities of the Association are in accordance with the governance structure, policies and procedures of the Board.
    • Facilitate the rule and policy making activities of the BoD through the provision of appropriate research information, supporting materials and documentation and administrative assistance.
    • Regularly identify and evaluate risks to the USCSA’s staff, volunteers, members, finances, goodwill and reputation and implement measures to control risks. Ensure the BoD and Association carry necessary and adequate insurance coverage.
    • Provide prompt, thorough and accurate information to keep the Board informed regarding key aspects of the Association’s operations, including but not limited to, financial position, membership retention and growth, and programmatic outcomes.
    • Ensure regular and effective communication within USCSA’s core volunteer constituencies.
    • Negotiate and manage all staffing, marketing, sponsorship and other contractual agreements on behalf of the organization.
    • Effectively execute high profile events and programs.

    Membership, Marketing and Fundraising

    Lead USCSA’s marketing, fundraising and member relations’ efforts to maximize membership retention and growth and enhance earned and contributed revenues through business development and sponsorships/fundraising.

    • Build and implement a marketing strategy consistent with the values of the Association that is effective in reaching media sources, strategic partners, sponsors and athletes and is successful in achieving annual and long-term communications objectives.
    • Develop and execute an annual fundraising plan that combines all appropriate fundraising vehicles (annual fund, major giving, grants, sponsorship, events) in a manner that maximizes ROI and keeps pace with the Association’s evolving need for contributed income. This may include the retention and further development of the USCSA alumni program and maintaining & development of corporate sponsorship.
    • Oversee all aspects of developing, strengthening, and maintaining the USCSA membership network throughout the country, including establishing long and short-term membership development benchmarks and budgets; strategically planning for and undertaking marketing activities; leading the organization’s member relations efforts; and serving as the primary steward of member relationships.
    • Experience with social media and working with the press to develop sustainable relationships with important media personnel to promote the USCSA and inform future athletes of the benefits of the USCSA.

    Required Skills and Abilities

    1. Degree in sports management, business administration, public policy, education, communication and a minimum of 5 years of increasingly responsible professional experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
    2. Proven senior leadership experience with a nonprofit organization is preferred.
    3. Experience working with a Board of Directors in an executive leadership position.
    4. Knowledge of competitive sports at collegiate level is preferred.
    5. Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
    6. Confident communicator and spokesperson with the ability to work effectively with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders.
    7. Strong computer / technology skills including working knowledge of Microsoft Office,Google documents/sheets, web-based communication & registration technologies, and database management.
    8. Strong leadership skills and demonstrated ability to manage staff/contractors and volunteers.
    9. Experience leading complex, detailed and time sensitive projects.
    10. Ability to motivate and direct positive change management and maintain high morale and enthusiasm within the Association.
    11. The position requires flexible working arrangements and includes sustained periods when increased time commitment is necessarily, such as during member registration and the competition season.

     

    Required Schedule

    The USCSA Executive Director position is expected to be full time from September through June.  Daily operating hours are 8-5 Monday through Friday with occasional weekends during critical times of the year.  Additionally there is a monthly conference call with the Executive Board of Directors occuring the first Thursday of every month in the evening.   The Executive Director is a remote-based position and the USCSA provides a computer and a cell phone allowance.

    Position Summary: The primary duties of this position include designing and implementing a structure that fits the needs of the Nordic community, delivering a product true to mission, and supporting staff to provide a safe and fun environment for learning. The Nordic Director will manage and develop a staff of Head Coaches for our Competition, Development and Youth Nordic programs and help oversee their management of assistant coaches.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Develop and implement all aspects of youth Nordic programs for beginner, intermediate, and competition level athletes.
    • Provide opportunities to engage Bend Endurance Academy athletes in community events to promote personal growth and instill a sense of responsibility to the community.

    Overview

    SNSC is a non-profit organization based in Summit County, CO focused on developing young athletes. Programs include summer training, fall rollerskiing, winter training and race programs, year-round strength training all with an aim to develop high level Nordic athletes. Athletes ages five and older participate in SNSC programs and come from Buena Vista, Kremling, Golden, Leadville and throughout Summit County.

    SNSC is experiencing a period of rapid growth and change as the organization evolves from a small, parent run winter ski program into a large, complex program creating some of the best Nordic skiers in the country. As SNSC grows so does the need for high-level coaches to help train the next generation of U.S. Nordic skiers. SNSC is seeking an experienced and high level assistant coach to help grow existing programs, create new programming to address member’s needs, and to ensure that all SNSC athletes have access to excellent coaching, training plans, and race day support.

    Full-time Assistant Coach:

    The Assistant Coach for SNSC will be primarily responsible for coaching the Comp Team (U16-U20 athletes) while also contributing to both the Devo (U12-U14) and Prep programs (U08-U12). This position directly reports to the Head Coach. This is a year-round position with in-person coaching sessions between June 1st and March 31st each year. The Assistant Coach will collaborate with the Head Coach on training planning and session design. Other duties will include but not be limited to: race day coaching, waxing and ski testing, pre race ski waxing, strength coaching, athlete transport (in county and traveling to races), helping to maintain wax and hardgood inventories and ski fleets, communication with athletes and parents, attendance and participation at SNSC events and fundraisers, developing additional programs and initiatives, interacting with and occasionally reporting to SNSC Board of Trustees, assisting with promoting SNSC’s programs at activity fairs, etc.

    The Assistant Coach must be a strong skier and roller skier with significant experience in waxing race skis and providing race day coaching to athletes. The Assistant Coach will need to be able to lead dryland and snow based training sessions at high altitude. High-level racing or coaching (collegiate or equivalent) background is preferred. Must be able to pass a background check and have a clean driving record.

    The Auburn Ski Club Training Center (ASCTC) is seeking to fill the position of Biathlon Program Director.  ASCTC is a non-profit organization located in California on Donner Summit and is dedicated to providing competitive programs for Alpine, Snowboard, Nordic and Biathlon athletes from across the region.  ASCTC also operates a 25km Nordic Center open to the public.

    The Biathlon Program director/head coach (Biathlon PD) oversees and manages the Biathlon program at the Training Center.  The program is described at www.auburnskiclub.com/asctc/ biathlon.

    Functions and responsibilities:

    1. Develop, plan, coach and execute a year-round biathlon program that currently consists of an mid-October to mid-April winter session and a summer/fall session from mid-June through mid-September.  Program includes 50 athletes, 3-4 training days a week, hosting competitions (USBA and citizen), clinics, camps and travel to competitions.
    2. Establish seasonal and long term program goals and technical progressions that strive to provide each athlete, from entry to elite levels, an opportunity to reach their fullest potential and enjoy a life-long passion for winter sports. Develop recruitment strategies, manage program participant communication, website content, social media and printed publications.
    3. Hire and train paid coaching staff, volunteer coaches and race crew to meet the needs of the program and athletes.  Develop and implement risk management and safety protocols for range, athlete safety and coaching staff.
    4. Create an annual Biathlon program budget in coordination with the Executive Director and Accounting Manager.  Work as a team with the Race Director and Nordic Director to plan and produce up to four existing off-season fundraising events.
    5. Maintain biathlon equipment, schedule and manage use of the range in coordination with the overall Training Center operation.
    6. As a key member of the ASCTC management team, participate in the operation of the Training Center.

    About Highlands Trailblazers Ski Club

    The Highlands Trailblazers Ski Club is a nonprofit component of Highlands Nordic Inc. It operates year round, helping skiers build new skills, race and enjoy a social, friendly, team atmosphere. The club operates out of Highlands Nordic in Duntroon, just minutes south of Collingwood. The Trailblazers consistently rank among the top 5 ski clubs in Ontario and are only one of three clubs to offer an on-premise biathlon program. The Club has produced skiers that have competed at the national and international level. It’s training programs follow the Cross Country/Biathlon Canada Long Term Athlete Development principles, with programs ranging from Biathlon Bears and Jackrabbits through to the Train to Compete “Comp” and “Comp 0.22” teams. A Board of Directors manages the Club, with the racing program lead by Head Coach Rick Dickey.

    The Program

    The “Jr. Comp” program was developed to focus on athletes at the “Train to Train” LTAD level when they progress through their peak growth period. It provides opportunities for the continual progression of technical skills and physical capacities. It is a high-energy program, which includes both Nordic and Biathlon air rifle athletes. The program places heavy emphasis on team building, group interaction and confidence while working to reach common goals.

    Athletes have learned how to train as part of a Track Attack or equivalent program with an expectation that they are independently driven to be active every day. They have at least one year of experience racing in cross-country or biathlon at a provincially recognized event (Midget Champs, Paraffin Series, etc)

    Lead Coach Position Overview

    This individual will be responsible for delivering the program to the athletes during dryland training, at camps and at races. Their focus is on guiding the athletes as they develop their physical and mental sport specific and sport general skills based on very frequent contact with them so that their progress can be observed regularly. The Lead Coach will be responsible for setting weekly training plans and directing volunteer parent-coaches assisting in the delivery of programming.

    I) Specific Coaching Expectations

    • Coach the team:
      • Twice per week from July to November
      • Wednesday(1), Saturday & Sunday(2), December to the end of March
      • At training camps and ski races
    • Communicate with athletes regarding program specifics and individual questions
    • Work with the coaching team:

    The growing Portland-area high school Nordic team is in need of a new head coach for the 2017-2018 ski season.  This team is comprised primarily of students from the 3 public high schools in Portland, Maine, but also includes skiers from local private schools and public schools in neighboring districts that lack ski programs.  As a result. the Portland Co-op team is a diverse group of skiers from all ability levels and walks of life.  In the past 7 years the team has enjoyed a great deal of success producing multiple state champions, many Maine elite team members, and a handful of skiers who have gone on to ski for NCAA teams.

    The high school team enjoys a great deal of support and funding from the Portland School District and is also supported by the Portland Nordic Club, which is active in promoting the Nordic skiing life-style for all age groups in the greater Portland area.  In addition to working towards the improvement of local skiing facilities, the club supports growing and highly successful BKL and middle school teams.  The high school team has accordingly grown in size in recent years and is poised for even greater success this year and for years to come.

    The Summit Nordic Ski Club (SNSC) is one of Colorado’s fastest growing youth ski programs and serves Summit County, Colorado (Breckenridge, Frisco, Silverthorne, Keystone and Dillon). SNSC has a top-notch coaching staff and is looking to recruit one more. We have five winter programs and are looking for an assistant coach to primarily help with our Devo Program (ages 11-13). Olof Hedberg is the Head Coach for SNSC and is responsible for training plan design and overseeing the entire program and coaching staff. This position would report directly to the Head Coach. Assistant coaches are on the front line working with athletes to help them achieve their individual goals from Olympic hopefuls to kids who enjoy being outside and want to improve their Nordic technique.

    SNSC is a relatively small organization which makes it feel more like a family. Our athletes and families are a fantastic group of people. We hope to find an excellent coach to join our community and help our club continue to grow.

    The Assistant Coach position is currently seasonal (October – March) and part time, but has the potential for full time work over the winter. There is also potential to extend the job into our summer programs. Our Devo program meets 4 days per week and has four main race weekends (travel Thursday/Friday and return Sunday) over the winter.

    NTDC Thunder Bay Job Notice: Ski Technician

    The National Team Development Centre Thunder Bay is seeking a Ski Technician for the 2017-2018 Season. This position is a support role in a dynamic high-performance service team committed to delivering international level race service and further develop
    Canada’s future Olympians.

    Term: December 2017-March 2018

    General Responsibilities:

    These include but are not limited to the following:

    • Assist in all aspects of competition preparation and race day service
    • Assist athletes with ski selection, general ski preparation, wax testing
    • Perform ski equipment maintenance
    • Provide race assistance to support athletes during competition, including time splits, feeds and equipment replacement
    • Managing movement of equipment and other logistics
    • Manage and track wax inventory

    Required Qualifications: 

    • Ability to communicate effectively, respectfully and professional with coaching
      staff, athletes and volunteers.
    • Good knowledge of current wax technologies, and application methods
    • Ability to work as a team member and focus on team goals
    • Strong in both skate and classic technique in order to test skis and waxes adequately
    • High level of fitness to maintain pace and consistency with testing protocols
    • Good understanding of ski technologies and knowledge of manufacturers design specifications

    Remuneration based on per day rate: negotiable based on experience.
