    Soldier Hollow is seeking to hire a full-time Head Coach to oversee its Competition Team. Team Soldier Hollow is a club program serving youth skiers in Midway & Heber Valley, Utah. Team Soldier Hollow is based out of the 2002 Olympic and Paralympic Nordic Venue and consists of 3 different levels of youth programs from the entry level Youth Ski League, to Devo and Comp Teams.

    The Head Coach position involves support to all Comp Team athletes, including making training plans, and running practices 4-6 days week. Additionally the position involves organizing and leading training camp trips in the summer/fall, as well as all Junior National qualifiers trips around the IMD USSA region.

    Duties include:

    • Conduct safe, fun and developmentally appropriate practices for the Comp Team (high school age athletes).
    • Write and execute training plans for the Comp Team athletes.
    • Communicate effectively with athletes and families by email, phone and via website regarding schedule and upcoming events.
    • Overseeing and working in close coordination with Assistant Coach(es).
    • Coordinating program activities with Program Manager, Devo Coach and ski school.
    • Plan and attend out of town races and overnight trips with the Comp Team.
    • Drive Soldier Hollow vehicles to/from training and races.
    • Provide race support including waxing at races.
    • Regularly promote program events/success via social media & local press.
    • Maintain Team wax and equipment.
    • Work with parent volunteers and assistant coaches who will assist in practices and at races.
    • Assist with staff and volunteer trainings and clinics.
    • Assist in hosting events at Soldier Hollow year-round, and working as part of the professional staff in other supportive roles.
    • Assist in Team Soldier Hollow fundraisers over the course of the season.

    Ideal candidate will have junior & collegiate (or better) ski racing experience. Previous coaching experience is desired but not required. Youth biathlon experience is not required, but may enhance your application. USSA coaches license & Level 100 coaches certification is required before the start of the ski season.

    Position Summary: The Head Coach is responsible for the development and implementation of a successful intercollegiate Nordic and Cross Country program by fulfilling specific job responsibilities in the intercollegiate athletic department. The Head Coach is expected to work as a team-player with primary responsibilities of coordinating all aspects of our Nordic and Cross Country programs and adhering to all NCAA rules for the sport of Nordic Skiing and Cross Country running. The Head Coach should foster student personal growth and development as well academic and athletic achievement. The Head Coach is viewed as a mentor and advocate of equity and diversity within the athletic department. Female and minority candidates are encouraged to apply.

    Required Qualifications:

    1. Bachelor’s degree.
    2. Minimum of 4 years collegiate coaching experience; or 6 years with a combinationof head coaching and competitive experience at the collegiate level.

    Essential Responsibilities:

    1. Develop, structure and implement a nationally competitive intercollegiate Nordic Ski and Cross Country program, striving for individual and team athletic and academic excellence.
    1. Recruitment and retention of 10 specific student-athletes per gender annually to the University for each the Nordic and Cross Country programs (roster total of 40 between the two).
    2. Supervise and direct associate and/or assistant Nordic and Cross Country personnel.
    3. Collaborate with the athletic academic coordinator and university faculty to monitor academic progress of student athletes to ensure that athletic eligibility and academic standards are maintained.
    4. Provide leadership to ensure that athletes conduct themselves in a manner that is consistent with university and athlete code of conduct working directly with the Director of Athletics, Dean of Students, and related staff of the Student Development Division.
    5. Secure a schedule of competition to be approved by the Director of Athletics with appropriate NCAA colleges/conference for the Nordic and CC program.
    6. Arrange lodging accommodations for away competitions.
    7. Submit travel plans and budget requests for all recruitment and athletic competitionactivities to the Director of Athletics.
    8. Report game statistics to the Sports Information Director.
    9. Oversee team budgets and operate teams within budget limits.
    10. Develop and promote camp/clinic programs designed for youth skill enhancement.
    11. Assist the Strength and Conditioning Coordinator to develop, implement, and monitor conditioning and skills enhancement programs designed to improve student athletic ability and performance.
    12. Adhere to all NCAA Division III rules and regulations governing collegiate athletics and the sports of Cross Country Running and Nordic Skiing.
    13. Support institutional identity and mission of Finlandia University “as a learning community dedicated to academic excellence, spiritual growth, and service” 15.Perform additional administrative responsibilities as qualified and assigned.

    The Jackson Hole Ski & Snowboard Club (“JHSC”) was founded in 1938 and is Jackson’s oldest non‐profit. Annually, JHSC serves over 500 young athletes in Alpine, Nordic, Freeride and Snowboard programs, bringing affordable snow sports to Jackson Hole’s local youth. The 2014/15 fiscal year budget includes revenues and expense of over $1,200,000, with over $400,000 coming from fundraising and events. Additionally, over the past year, JHSC raised $1,500,000 in its largest fundraising and capital project in its history to purchase snow making equipment, chillers, and lights for the race arena and terrain park at Snow King, JHSC’s main Alpine training facility. The installation of the snow making equipment and lights is complete and JHSC plans to become a major player in hosting early season Alpine camps in November and December.     Position Summary

    The JHSC Executive Director (“ED”) is the chief executive officer of the organization and is responsible for supervision and oversight of all JHSC’s business and fiduciary affairs, its agents and employees. He/she reports to the Board of Directors. The ED position is a high visibility one; the ED is the primary spokesperson of the organization. The position is full time, year‐round.

    Desired Characteristics & Qualifications

    Education & Training:

    Minimum of an undergraduate degree; desired fields of study include business, marketing and education

    Experience:

    • Minimum of ten to fifteen years of high level leadership and management experience, preferably in a winter sports club or similar organization
    • Experience working with a variety of stakeholders (coaches, athletes, parents, donors, schools, partners, government agencies, etc…)
    • Experience with winter sports and high level athletic competition
    • Fundraising and development experience
