Plain Valley Ski Trails is seeking an experienced Program Director & Head Coach to lead the Plain Valley Nordic Team into its next chapter.

PVST is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit with a mission to create and sustain a high-quality ski trail system that serves the community and funds barrier-free ski educational programs that motivate individual and team achievement. PVNT provides year-round ski education in a supportive environment where young people grow as skiers and individuals.

PVNT has the rare advantage of training on a trail system managed by its supporting nonprofit. Plain Valley Ski Trails includes approximately 25 kilometers groomed for skate and classic skiing, while the surrounding valley offers additional ski trails and excellent opportunities for running, biking, roller skiing, and strength training.

Chelan County recently acquired the property PVST knows as the Stadium, PVNT’s treasured home for instruction, races, games, and challenge and skills courses. This acquisition secures the property for winter use and opens exciting possibilities for year-round training and recreation.

With PVST appointed as the land managers, the new Program Director & Head Coach will have a meaningful opportunity to help shape a sustainable home base for the team. Future possibilities include improved training areas, bathrooms, and, one day, an indoor space for strength training, team gatherings, education, and community building.

About PVNT

PVNT is a well-established and nationally competitive club within the Pacific Northwest Division. Its programs serve more than 120 children, from preschool through high school, with opportunities ranging from first experiences on skis to Junior Nationals competition.

PVNT athletes have earned national championships, All-American honors, and opportunities with the U.S. Ski Team. Most recently, PVNT was the highest-scoring Pacific Northwest club at the 2026 Junior National Championships. Beyond results, PVNT works to remove barriers, build confidence and resilience, and foster lifelong connections to outdoor recreation and community.

Position: Program Director & Head Coach

This full-time, year-round position leads PVNT’s youth programs and oversees approximately 120 skiers and more than 20 paid and volunteer coaches. In support of the Plain Valley Ski Trails mission, the Program Director and Head Coach’s role is to oversee all aspects of the Plain Valley Nordic Team.

Primary responsibilities include:

• Leading PVNT’s culture, values, and coaching philosophy
• Designing and overseeing age-appropriate, year-round training
• Coaching athletes from beginner through national-level competition
• Recruiting, supervising, and mentoring paid and volunteer coaches
• Managing program operations, communication, staffing, budgets, equipment, practices, camps, races, and travel
• Collaborating with PVST staff, families, community partners, and other Nordic clubs
• Helping shape PVNT’s future programming and year-round home base

Oversee all aspects of the Plain Valley Nordic Team, including:

• Planning and implementing the team’s training program
• Maintaining clear, professional, and timely communication with athletes, coaches, volunteer coaches, parents, and staff
• Hiring all lead coaches across all layers, in collaboration with the executive director
• Supervision and support of volunteer coaches for all layers, in collaboration with the lead coaches for each layer
• Preparing training schedules that foster athlete development
• Providing coaching to more advanced skiers and other layers as needed
• Providing coaching and on-site supervision to PVNT skiers during camps and races
• Staying up to date and incorporating all USSS standards and regulations
• Planning PVST-hosted youth races in coordination with the executive director
• Managing equipment for the ski education program
• Overseeing the care and maintenance of team vans, coordinating with PVST’s mechanic to address needed repairs or other concerns
• Partnering with clubs within the Pacific Northwest to fortify the division
• Representing PVNT within the Nordic Competition Committee (NCC)
• Collaborating with the Trails Manager and executive director to further trail development

Requirements

The ideal candidate will be an advanced Nordic skier with competitive coaching experience, strong training-plan expertise, and demonstrated experience managing staff or volunteers, budgets, and youth programs. A USSS coaching license and associated training are required.

• Proficiency skiing at an advanced level and maintaining general fitness
• USSS coaching license and associated training
• Strong commitment to instructing and ensuring the well-being of youth
• Prior experience managing staff or volunteers, budgets, and programs
• This position requires adaptability, flexibility, and a willingness to help where needed
• This position requires an understanding that vacation time cannot be scheduled during the start-ups of programs or during events, races, or camps

This position requires flexibility, regular travel, and availability for practices, camps, races, and events, including evenings and weekends.

Reporting Structure

This position reports to and works under the directives of the PVST Executive Director and the goals set by the PVST Board of Directors.

Compensation

• $50,000–$60,000 annually, DOE, plus benefits
• $4,000 annual Health Reimbursement Account (HRA)
• $50/month cell phone reimbursement
• Free program registrations and 50% camp / race registrations for dependents
• 14 days vacation, plus the following holidays: Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s, Martin Luther King, Presidents Day, Easter, Memorial Day, and Labor Day
  • Any holiday worked because of ski team events will accrue a comp day that can be taken anytime during the year
• .025/hour for sick leave accrued annually

This is a year-round, full-time position.
