    Soldier Hollow Seeks Venue Operations Supervisor

    Soldier Hollow Nordic Center is hiring a Venue Operations Supervisor to run snowmaking, snowcat grooming and trail operations at the Midway, Utah venue that hosted biathlon and cross country skiing at the 2002 Olympics.

    The job is full time and year round, and it sits at the center of how the venue works. Winter means building base, setting classic and skate track, shaping the tubing hill and prepping racecourses. Summer means mountain bike trail construction, roller ski trail repair, mowing and fleet maintenance across 31 kilometers of terrain.

    Soldier Hollow is operated by the Utah Olympic Legacy Foundation, which also runs the Utah Olympic Park in Park City and the Utah Olympic Oval in Kearns. With the Games returning to Salt Lake City in 2034, the venue crew is preparing trails that have to work for World Cup athletes and first time skiers alike.

    The Position

    From the posting: “Soldier Hollow Nordic Center in Midway, Utah, is hiring a Venue Operations Supervisor to work in snowmaking, snowcat grooming, and trail operations at the Salt Lake 2002 Olympic biathlon and cross-country venue. With the Olympics returning to Utah in 2034, you’ll help prepare Olympic-caliber trails for daily skiing and events and assist with maintenance and operations of this year-round facility. If you’re a hands-on leader who knows snowcats, snow guns, and trail building, keep reading.”

    Schedule, Pay and Benefits

    • Full time, year round, hourly position
    • Pay range: $24 to $30 per hour, depending on experience

    What the Job Asks For

    Must haves:

    • 3+ years of snowcat grooming and snowmaking experience
    • 2+ years maintaining and repairing heavy equipment, snowmobiles and vehicles
    • 1+ years leading a field crew, including hiring, training and scheduling
    • Experience preparing venues and courses for events such as mountain biking, cross country skiing or biathlon races
    • Valid driver’s license
    • Comfortable with snowmaking software, equipment logs, email and the Nordic Pulse app
    • Ready to work outdoors in every Wasatch season

When temperatures drop overnight, you and your crew fire up the system and build base so the tubing hill and ski trails open on time. Once the snow is down, you set classic and skate track, shape the tubing hill, and prep racecourses. In summer, you shift to mountain bike trail construction, roller ski trail repair, mowing, and fleet maintenance. Every day, you lead alongside your crew, and every athlete, family, and racer feels the result.”

    UAF Seeks Assistant Nordic Ski Coach for Storied Collegiate Program

    Position: Assistant Men’s and Women’s Nordic Ski Coach

    About the Position

    The Assistant Men’s and Women’s Nordic Ski Coach plays a key role in supporting one of the nation’s premier collegiate ski programs. Working alongside the Head Coach, this position helps foster a high-performance environment grounded in growth, development, and teamwork. As part of the UAF Athletics Department and the broader Fairbanks ski community, the assistant coach will mentor student-athletes both on and off the trails, helping them excel in competition while preparing for success beyond college.

    Success in this position comes from being an excellent communicator who inspires and guides college-aged athletes to reach their highest potential. The right candidate will mentor with patience and confidence while bringing out the best in both individuals and the team as a whole. On race days, the ability to stay calm, make quick decisions, and adapt under pressure will be essential. Creativity in problem-solving, flexibility in coaching approaches, and a balance of working effectively within a team while taking initiative independently will help the assistant coach excel in this role.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in a related field and three years of relevant coaching experience at the collegiate level, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
    • Cross-country ski racing experience.
    • A valid Alaska Driver’s License and a clean driving record in compliance with UA Safe Driving Criteria.

    Preferred:

    • Degree earned while participating as an athlete at the candidate’s institution.
    • B.A. or B.S. in Physiology, Biology, Physics, or similar — though other majors are not excluded.
    • USSS Coaches Education L-100 certification, or equivalent.

    Further ski- and NCAA-related education will be provided as part of the position.

    Position Details

    This is a full-time, 11-month, term-funded, exempt staff position with a competitive salary and a comprehensive benefits package. UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, annual leave, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental, and vision care coverage. New hires will be placed on the UA Staff Salary Schedule, Grade 79, based on education and experience.

    The University of Alaska reserves the right to require employees to work on-site at UA facilities. Hybrid and remote work may be approved for employees based in Alaska at the University’s discretion. Remote work for employees based outside the State of Alaska may be approved only in exceptional circumstances or when required by the position’s job duties.

    This position is term-funded and is reviewed annually for contract renewal at the University’s discretion.

    Auburn Ski Club (ASC) is a historic non-profit organization dedicated to providing snow sports opportunities to the greater Northern California region since 1928.

    Today, ASC operates a snow sports Training Center (TC) on Donner Summit that provides athletic programs, USSS/FIS competition and training venues, and youth snow sports teams ranging from entry-level to elite for Alpine, Snowboard, Nordic, and Biathlon.

    The Training Center’s cross-country venue also operates as a 25-kilometer Nordic Center open to the public.

    Position Details

    Position: Nordic Sports Program Director
    Employer: Auburn Ski Club Inc.
    Reports to: Executive Director
    Employment: 11 Months, Full Time
    Compensation: $65,000 – $80,000 salary per year

    Function

    The Nordic Sports Program Director is responsible for Nordic and Biathlon programming at the ASC Training Center. This role ensures that Nordic and Biathlon programming, scheduling, and competitions align with the ASC Training Center’s mission, vision, and strategic plan.

    The Nordic Sports Director is also a member of the leadership team, which includes the Executive Director, Program Directors, and administrative and accounting staff.

    Responsibilities and Duties

    1. Program Management and Coaching
      Plan, manage, coach, and execute Nordic programs at the ASC Training Center, ranging from entry-level programs through development teams, varsity school teams, and high-level competition ski teams. Responsibilities include managing year-round training schedules, hosting competitions, organizing travel to competitions, running clinics and camps, and supporting participation in Far West Nordic, USSS, FIS, and CNISSF events. Work with the Competition Services Department to host and execute competitions.
    2. Athlete Development and Program Operations
      Develop and execute technical progressions that provide athletes with a pathway to reach their full potential while fostering a lifelong passion for snow sports in alignment with the ASC Training Center’s mission and strategic plan. Work with the leadership team on recruitment strategies, program communications, Training Center operations, coordination of the overall Training Center schedule, and production of website, social media, and printed content.
    3. Staff Leadership and Program Coordination
      Recruit, hire, train, and schedule paid coaching staff and volunteer coaches to meet the needs of the program and athletes. In coordination with HR, ensure all employee onboarding requirements are completed prior to employment. Coordinate with and oversee the Biathlon Program Director to conduct joint ski training sessions, share trail and training space, maintain race equipment, and support shared development goals for cross-country and biathlon athletes. Develop and implement staff risk management training and athlete safety protocols in accordance with ASC operational policies and procedures.
    4. Budgeting and Strategic Planning
      Develop an annual budget in coordination with the Executive Director. Participate in capital improvement planning and strategic planning with the leadership team and Board of Directors. Prepare reports for the Executive Director and Board of Directors.
    5. Leadership Team Participation
      As a member of the leadership team, assist with additional tasks and special projects as needed. These may include website management, social media, email newsletters, advertising, collateral materials, registration, public relations, and HR support.

    Qualifications

    • Extensive proven technical knowledge of Nordic racing and a passion for the sport
    • Ability to positively inspire athletes of all ages and skill levels
    • Strong organizational, communication, and writing skills
    • Proven customer service experience working with athletes and families
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment and remain productive when unsupervised
    • Computer proficiency and strong administrative skills
    • Ability to safely use hand tools and equipment as required
    • Ability to work in winter weather and across varied snow surfaces, both on and off skis
