Jens Arne Svartedal is ready for on-snow glacier training at Sognefjellet in Norway. But the sprint World champion would have skipped this camp if the choice was his.
– I have always said that summer skiing gives few benefits. I have experienced too many bad workouts on the glacier at Sognefjellet, says Svartedal.
The Norwegian national teams including sprinters and distance skiers started their on-snow camp on Tuesday this week. And everyone will be there by Thursday.
— Odd-Bjœrn and I are doing some work for one of our sponsors on Tuesday and won’t go up before Tuesday night, explains Svartedal.
 and that quickly makes the workouts less than good. But he sees that others are of the opposite opinion. </p>
<p>For many this is the highlight of all the camps we have, but not for me, he says.</p>
<p>He underlines that this isn’t a protest toward the proposed camp schedule, but a contribution in the training debate regarding what’s important and valuable and what’s not. </p>
<p>He is despite this positive to participate at the camp, especially since the ski manufacturers will be visiting.</p>
<p>– That way we’ll do some testing and conversations we were not able to do this winter.<br />
Strong on the bike</p>
<p>The season preparations are well under way for Svartedal. He feels that he is off to a better start than in many years.</p>
<p>— I hardly trained at all in April, but the May and so far in June, training has been very good.<br />
He proved that when he raced in the Raumerrittet bike race on Saturday. He posted the same time as the cycling-phantom Edvald Boasson Hagen. </p>
<p>— I was very happy with that race and my performance. It went well, he concludes. </p>
