div style=”text-align: left;”Yesterday we did a speed workout as a team out on Sand Lake. It was fun to work as a group and really notice the varying speeds throughout the terrain. Below is a video of us just finishing up a speed and then skiing easy up the hill. • Playing Catch Up

Spring has been busy. But I am always busy. nbsp; The real reason there’s been a lack of blog postings recently is because I can’t get my iphoto to work. My pictures are in essence “stuck” on my camera and I can’t access iphoto at all – although I know I didn’t erase all my pictures. When it comes to fixing technical problems I’m about as worthless as anyone or anything….. I personally don’t like blogs without photos so I will do my best to post with some haphazard photos that have been given to me by others while I find someone to help me fix my computer! br /br /Meanwhile, this past weekend in Alaska was amazing. I got out for some much needed adventures – the kind that are good and restful for the soul and mind but not for the body! I’m tired and paying for it this week in training! On Saturday, my teammate Katie Ronsee and I skied/hiked from the South Fork of the Eagle River to Glen Alps. nbsp;Conditions were perfect and the trip took us 6 1/2 hours. If that wasn’t enough, we decided that that wasn’t enough and we ran into town carrying our skis in hands which took another 2 hours.br /br /div class=”separator” style=”clear: both; text-align: center;”

    • RASTA Rally

That’s right.  After a three week vacation that took me on a tour of places most cross country skiers don’t get to check out during the race season, including Washington DC, Charlottesville, Virginia, and New Orleans, Louisiana, (which I will write more about later), it was time to start training again.  This time we were off to Minocqua, Wisconsin.

The camp included VOmax testing at Jim Mullen’s Premier Physical Medicine, a mountain bike race on Wayne Fish’s famous Camp Tesomas trails, some rollerskiing, running, and great accommodations at the Hugus’ cabin.  The highlight for me was the RASTA Rally mountain bike race, a fundraiser for the Rhinelander Area Ski Trail Association.  Gus took photos, while the rest of the team raced.

I sold my mountain bike a couple of weeks ago, only to find out that the new bike I want to get is on back order until June.  Thanks to my favorite shop, New Moon Bike and Ski, for sponsoring me this weekend and letting me ride one of their rental bikes in the race.  They’ve got a great selection of sweet new 29″ bikes for sale, as well as a full rental fleet.  If you want to get out for a spin on a new bike, stop by New Moon in Hayward and they’ll help you find the perfect bike.

bryan gregg – "i swear i only had to walk my bike when people were watching!"

Of course, Coach Fish made us get out for some roller skiing as well.

Karl and Gus relax after the the first roller ski of the season

It’s always nice to know we’re not the only ones on the road working out.

    • Awesome two gap ride yesterday!

    • Currier and Boutot invited to first National Team Camp

The first period (4 weeks) of training are just about over. It has been a gradual process for the athletes and coaches working their way back into the new season, but so far everyone seems to have their batteries just about on full and ready to go.

Next week marks the beginning of the first National Team Camp in Lake Placid. Russell was named to the B-Team and will attend the full three weeks. Grace also recieved an invitation as the top Jr. to attend the first two weeks. In the past we’ve tried to get at least one Jr. athlete to some of the National Team Camps for experience and it has been a good opportunity for the younger athletes to work along side of our best athletes.
