As usual, most of my work has been with Stefan getting the glide testing done and waxing skis. But that doesn’t mean I haven’t gotten a fair bit of klister on my hands. Waxing has been pretty straight-forward and the team has had good skis for each of the races. Working with Gianluca, Stefan, and Miha is great. Four nationalities, four languages, four personalities, but one goal.br /br /The team of athletes this year consists of very experienced athletes like Petra Majdic on one extreme, to the youngest skier, Anje, who doesn’t even have a driver’s licence yet. A total of five skiers (Petra, Katja, Vesna, Barbara, Anje), plus two coaches, and 4 serviceman, plus a physio-therapist.br /br /Speaking of Petra, many probably have seen the footage of her crash during warm-ups and the subsequent efforts culminating in the bronze medal. Petra’s in the hospital now, and won’t be able to travel for more than a week, and she’s in a lot of pain with broken ribs. Her season is over, not to mention the Olympics.br /br /span style=”font-style: italic; color: rgb(255, 0, 0); font-weight: bold;”Quick Turn Service?/spanbr /br /On Wednesday, immediately after the sprint races, I loaded up the Subaru and drove back to the shop with over 40 pairs of skis for a quick-turnaround grind. I was accompanied by Stefano Vuerich, and we drove for 9 hours each way to get the skis in-and-out as quickly as possible. With a big pile of skis jammed into the car, we got stopped at the border in both directions. The border agents for US and Canada were friendly and thorough, and I guess it just seemed a little odd that two guys were driving from Whistler to Winthrop and turning around to go right back, less than a day later. No harm though, except for the time delays. I arrived back in Whistler a few minutes before midnight last night, and was up early to get the skis to the cross-country venue this morning.br /br /That pile of skis were for athletes from Slovenia, Italy, Russia, Spain, US Nordic Combined, and also for Madshus Ski Company (they have a lot of brand new skis on hand for their sponsored racers to use). Cross-country, Biathlon, and Nordic Combined all need fast skis.br /br /I was amazed and proud – in equal parts – to see athletes racing on those same skis today in the Pursuit! With conditions stable, more of those skis will be in play on Saturday. Barbara Jesersek started today in bib #61 and finished 17th! It was a fantastic result for her – best ever. She skied a solid race, staying around 26th place through the classic portion, and then moving up during the skate, and hammering through the last couple of kilometers to move up to 17th. For Barbara it was a personal triumph. February Holiday Ski Camp 2010
MVNT hosted another successful ski camp for 6-11 year olds this week. Thirteen kiddos, mostly from the ‘west side’, classic skied at Chickadee and on the Community Trail, with able coaching from MVNT coaches and ski team members. Beautiful weather and sweet skiing! -

Following my event I was able to get out and see the world a bit in the last two days. I’ve enjoyed so much hanging with my sister, Rosanna. I watched her exciting race on Wednesday and hung with her in the village. Our team is staying a 30 minute drive South down the road from Whistler so to see the Olympic village was a real treat. Great work to the people who made that good-looking place and all the nice volunteers who make it so welcoming.
At the nordic venue I’ve been proud to see some of our best results coming from these two great friends of mine – Ivan Babikov and Sara Renner. Top tens from both of them already and more great races still to come. I love my team!

No Fun
It’s been quiet around this blog for a couple of months. That’s never a good thing.

Super G
That’s right. I’ve been up to the Nordic venue every day since I’ve been here. On my day off today, it was time to get out and see another event–the Men’s Super G didn’t disappoint!
Klaus Marquardt, one of the German Biathlon coaches, was on the athlete bus to the race as well. We used our athlete credentials to get some of the best seats in the house.
Andrew Weibrecht, from Lake Placid, New York, laid down an impressive early run while the hill was still icy fast. It was exciting to watch all the other top skiers come up short against Weibrecht’s fast time.
Of course, watching alpine racing, we got to see some impressive crashes. This yard sale happened right before the finish–notice the final gate that got taken out and the two skis that were lost.
Ted Ligety does a brief interview after his race. Watching Bode squeak in ahead of Weibrecht to take the lead was awesome. I thought the US was going to go 1-2, but Axel Lund Svindal snuck ahead of them to take the Gold for Norway. At any rate, it was an exciting day to check out the Super G.
Swiss flags and Sid Crosby jerseys–probably the two most prominent items in the crowds at the Games. I watched one of the most exciting hockey games of these Olympics with the Swiss team in the dining hall last night. My parents were at the game and got to watch it live. Crosby won the game with his shoot-out goal.
What an exciting week. Thumbs up all the way around!

Super G
That’s right. I’ve been up to the Nordic venue every day since I’ve been here. On my day off today, it was time to get out and see another event–the Men’s Super G didn’t disappoint!
