  • Demolition Day #1

Today was the first day of demolition on the new house. Andrea, Corrine, Grace, Katrina, Leif, and myself tackled the 70’s style architecture with the help of Phyllis’ cousin Jim; eight hours later and the house was transformed. The tasks included pulling up carpet, taking aparrt cabinets, taking apart old base board heating, and many other surprises created over the years. Tomorrow is day two!

Trees and shrubs were removed to allow natural light into the house.

Carpet and and other pieces that once were inside.

More piles inside; cabinets from the kitchen, bathrooms, and dining area.

    The ladies gettin’r done!

Corrine and Grace taking apart the kitchen.

    Leif making friends during lunch.

    The living room.

Preparing the kitchen for a makeover.

The girls having fun and showing off their new pink gloves!

  • Rochester Nordic Clinic

The Rochester Nordic Ski Team, a part of the Rochester Active Sports Club (RASC), will be hosting a ski clinic with US Olympic skier and CXC Team Vertical Limit member Garrott Kuzzy on Sunday June 13th at Essex Park in Rochester.  There will be a 2 hour clinic for masters and coaches starting at 1:00pm and a junior clinic starting at 3:30pm for 1 hour. Cost is a $20 donation to the RASC for the masters/ coaches clinic, which will also satisfy the Technique Clinic requirement for USSA Level 100 Coaches Certification. The junior clinic is free and coaches are welcome to attend as well.

The clinic will include a number of strength, balance, and technique ideas and will be different from any clinic you’ve attended before!  Of course, you’ll get to hear stories first hand from the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver as well.

Bring running shoes, ski poles, ski boots, helmet, water, and rollerskis if you’ve got them.  We will try to have several extra pairs of rollerskis on hand for folks who don’t have their own to try.

For junior skiers, Garrott plans to hold a shorter clinic from 3:30 to 4:30 on the same day (Sunday June 13th). The cost for juniors is $0 – probably the best deal you will ever get for an hour’s coaching from an Olympic skier.  No roller skis will be needed for the junior clinic.

If you would like to participate, please send a note to mkoconnor@mayo.edu, walker.henry@mayo.edu, or bmwalk@aol.com by Friday, May 28.

  • Finally a perfect day

Spring in Washington has been surprisingly rainy and wet.  On Saturday the weather finally broke and we had a beautiful spring day.  One of my favorite workouts is to roller ski up Washington Pass.  We had a good group, Me, Chad, Mom, Dad, Mac, Mark and Margaret.

Chad, my favorite all-time training partner

Our June CXC Camp starts today in Marine on St. Croix, MN.  The weather is beautiful and I am ready

On the APU team, we are required to come up with our own waxing supplies for glacier camps and training while we are in Anchorage. With two week long camps of klister skiing every day while we are up on Eagle Glacier, that can add up to quite a bit. Rita was very generous and stocked me up with a nice range of waxes. divbr /divI have lots of warm klisters…. so hope it stays warm up there!/div/divdiv class=”blogger-post-footer”img width=’1′ height=’1′ src=’https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/2018521813175454198-5680402290363608743?l=sadiebjornsen.blogspot.com’ alt=” //div

  • Update

The last two weeks in Bend helped me jump-start my volume training for the season. We spent 2-3 hours skiing at Mt. Bachelor in the morning and did a dryland workout in the afternoon. My total volume was more than I had done since last fall. It was good to get back into the training schedule, despite the less than desirable weather. We experienced some snow the first few days, until it turned to rain. Unfortunately, our 3 hour over-distance ski fell on the day where it poured ALL day! Bend is usually known for its sunny days, but that was not the case this time.

We managed to have one sunny day!

I returned to Sun Valley just in time to help with the Sun Valley half marathon. While I was a little jealous not to race in it, I had fun helping with the Kid’s Zone. There were several activities for kid’s including the bouncy castle, face painting, relay races, karaoke, and a kid’s running race. Here are several picture from the day’s event:

It has been nice to spend some time with my parents and get some work in during this short 3 week transition period between training blocks./span/span/pp class=”MsoNormal”span class=”Apple-style-span” style=”font-family:TimesNewRomanPSMT;”br //span/p p class=”MsoNormal”span style=”font-family:TimesNewRomanPSMT;”span class=”Apple-style-span” style=”font-size:medium;”I returned home from Alaska for 1 month in hopes of getting in some “real summer” but it sure appears I am in the wrong place. From what I hear Alaska is hogging all the sun. Normally I would be relieved when it rains in the Methow because it is always so warm and dry, but I am not experiencing those same feelings right now. In the past two weeks I think it has been dry maybe one or two days. Roller skiing in the rain gets old after about 1 day! Regardless, I have gotten in some good training and I have enjoyed being in the valley working out with my mom every day./span/span/pp class=”MsoNormal”span class=”Apple-style-span” style=”font-family:TimesNewRomanPSMT;”br //span/p p class=”MsoNormal”span style=”font-family:TimesNewRomanPSMT;”span class=”Apple-style-span” style=”font-size:medium;”Next week I will take off for the “National Training Group” Camp in Park City, Utah. I just got an email from the coach today and looks like it will be a fun group of athletes and coaches. The schedule shows lots of rollerskiing, running, strength and a couple of time trials. Unfortunately I have been struggling with knee problems, so my activities will be a bit limited to rollerskiing, swimming, and ski walking. I leave on the 9th, so I will update when it all gets rolling in PC./span/span/pp class=”MsoNormal”span class=”Apple-style-span” style=”font-family:TimesNewRomanPSMT;”br //span/pp class=”MsoNormal”span class=”Apple-style-span” style=” ;font-family:TimesNewRomanPSMT;”span class=”Apple-style-span” style=”font-size:medium;”Until then…. keep up the sun dance- one of these days summer will decide to make an appearance. /span/span/p !–EndFragment–div class=”blogger-post-footer”img width=’1′ height=’1′ src=’https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/2018521813175454198-4455597777268486768?l=sadiebjornsen.blogspot.com’ alt=” //div
