I did the best I could today

Today the SuperTour Bozeman sprints were held in Lindley Park! We arrived at the start at 7:45 am to start warming up for a race start at 9:00am. The wind was blowing, the temperature was dropping, and the snow was falling… but that didn’t stop us from stripping down to our bright little spandex racing suits to hammer around a twisty, turny mile long race course!
I felt pretty good racing this morning… unlike last week, I felt comfortable on my skis and actually felt like I could ski fast and stay in control of my body… and it felt great! I love the feeling of pushing yourself harder than most people think possible. And the metalic taste of blood in your mouth after you cross the finish line, and the light-headed lack-of-oxygen feeling is priceless.
So after a short cooldown, we headed back to our house (a 10 minute drive down the road) to throw some sweaty clothes in the dryer and to eat a sandwich and relax for an hour before we would go back to the race course for the afternoon heats. (I qualified and would be racing in the 3rd heat which started at 12:10pm).
The gun went off for my heat, and we were off down the course! I felt good, but since it was windy and to move to the semifinals you just need to be the in the top 2 of your heat, I wanted to take it out relaxed and take advantage of a draft. So I didn’t try to make any crazy break-away move, and stayed right in the pack… but the course was narrow and my skis got tangled with someone else’s skis… before I knew it I was on my face and everyone flew by me as I was trying to untangle myself and my equipment. I got up, and didn’t give up! I managed to pass 2 people before the finish line. But that still put me in 4th for my heat, and I didn’t move on to the semifinals.
I am happy with my effort and I felt fast. Though I was hoping for a better result today I’m not dissappointed because I can still say “I did the best I could today”! -

It was a windy and raw day at Lindley park right in downtown. But it was a heart warming sight to see Sadie coming back into form. Today I began to see the SUPER SADIE again.br /br /It was clear to me while spending time talking and training with Sadie yesterday that she has her game on again and was ready to fight it out today.br /br /The qualifying time trial was held at 9 with Sadie going out 11th. She looked very smooth and relaxed and ended up 8th fastest just under 4 seconds back of Caitlin Compton who lead by 1.5 seconds.br /br /The heats got underway at noon with Sadie’s quarter final running at 12:20. She had tough competition all the way through with Laura Valaas in each of her heats.br /Sadie lead from the gun in each heat taking a commanding lead by the time she exited the stadium. She was able lead the entire quarter final only being challenged by Valaas on the last short steep hill into the stadium where Sadie’s superior speed came into play.br /br /In the semi final she once again took an early lead but three women slipped past her by the half way point. Once again, however, she out sprinted them in the last 200 meters. This included the eventual race winner Holly Brooks. So, this advanced her into the A final.br /br /The final heat looked like it might be a replay as Sadie stormed out of the stadium in the lead. Holly made her move after about 400meters and Sadie could not respond. Skiing from the front in the other heats had cost her too much energy and she dropped to 6th place. All day long I had seen the fire that has made Sadie the champion that she is but this last heat is where I really saw the grit that shows what she is made of. On the last hill leading into the stadium she poured on that amazing sprint; jump skating past Valaas into 5th place.br /br /While it is clear that Sadie is not fully back into form yet the change from last weekend is remarkable and this result is a validation of the benefits of our speed training all summer.div class=”blogger-post-footer”img width=’1′ height=’1′ src=’https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/2910103639238326543-5903194457576730279?l=methowolympicdevelopment.blogspot.com’ alt=” //div

Canmore Race Series #2
Water VaporizationPat Cote Skiing
Canmore Nordic Area has done it. They have created a separate Biathlon and Cross Country Loop In about 3 days. The tracks stand as testament to their snow making capability. Unfortunately we are not able to ski the real 10km course which has great transitions fun downhills and some challenging terrain. It was funny the 2 days previous to today the temp. was way below zero F and the snow guns were making about 90% vapor or more.Tomorrow we have a 10km race on a 2.5 km loop. The loop has no sustained climbs or downhills. It will be a suffer fest though since one shall have to grind around the course, with no real rest.Psyche d to race the Temp should be above zero tomorrow. Still Toko HF Blue with JS Blue Bloc rubbed and Rotocorked. Sunday will bring extreme cold and most likely will break out the XCold powder. Then on Monday we travel to again to the Midwest Freezer Box.Actually was -22 a second before that’s Celsius -
“I live in hotels, tear out the walls. . .”
Well, maybe we don’t tear out the walls quite like Joe Walsh. We do take out the beds and furniture, then cover the floor with plastic to make ourselves a wax room. It’s busy in there today, waxing for the weekend. Everyone is pouring Toko LF blue, the fastest cold wax around, into their skis in prep for a frigid weekend in Bozeman.
Bozeman Best Western Gran Tree: our home away from home for the weekend
Caitlin Compton has been traveling with us this week. Great to have her back with the CXC crew, bringing our focus up a notch and entertaining us with her stories. Stay tuned as we dive into the races this weekend. Here’s Caitlin showing off the stadium at Lindley Park in Bozeman.

Bozeman
Drove to Bozeman yesterday afternoon. So nice to be in a town with the rest of civilization and have fast internet. Some pretty good food in Bozeman as well. In the last 24 hours I’ve gone out for three meals and each of them has rocked. Not sure if it’s the food is that good or I am just not eating the same things for 8 straight days… Either way is was mmm, mmm, good. This mornign was a nice to ski up at Bohart to see the Sunday’s course. It has a couple pretty good hills on the 5k look which is refreshing to see. It does go every which way but up their best climb here but there is no faking fitness on the course and that is good to see. This afternoon we head to tomorrows sprint course at Lindley Park which is right outside our hotel. The sight of my only sprint victory!

Bozeman
After two weeks in West Yellowstone it was time to move on to the next stop on the racing schedule. So after the hour and a half drive we arrived in Bozeman to blue skies and temperatures barely above 10. After unpacking the van we scraped a pair of skis and headed up to Bohart Ranch to check out the classic course for Sunday’s race. I haven’t raced at Bohart for a few years but it was just as fun and hard as I remembered.
This morning we skied at Lindley Park where the skate sprints will be held tomorrow. It was an awesome course with fast downhills and a couple of wicked corners. It will make for a sweet race course. I did a few short intervals that felt fast and I’m looking forward to racing tomorrow.
The next few days will go by really fast because if the two races. From here I will fly up up to Silver Star on Tuesday with races the following weekend. Check back for pictures and more updates!

Bozeman, MT
The CXC Team Vertical Limit arrived in Bozeman, MT, on Wednesday. We will have 2 races this weekend: a skate sprint at Lindley Park, and a 10/15K classic at Bohart Ranch.
I love Bozeman because it is not too high, but still in the mountains and georgous. Unfortunately, I had the sniffles this morning so I […] -
Twiddlin’ My Thumbs
I’m five days into a mandatory rest period following our West Yellowstone debacle. The weather in Mazama has been cold and clear, with the only skiing being a very icy 4km out-and-back at Klipchuck campground. Still, it’s better than rollerskiing; in fact, today was my first day back skiing. Yesterday I performed a brief, “testing the waters” strength workout with some C2 doublepoling and light weights, followed by a massage from Alison Hanks. I woke up this morning feeling pretty decent so took a chance on skis. I’m not dead yet, so things must be looking up.br /br /With luck, by the end of this weekend I’ll be confident with my full recovery. If that is the case, and if Erik is in the same boat, we’ll head up to Silver Star early next week to get in a bit of speed training to revive ourselves before next weekend’s races, and our return to the circuit. I’m also really hoping I’ll have those few extra days at Silver Star so I can do some testing on the new classic boards which Rita at
