Monday’s World Junior’s 5 k classic in Oberwiesenthal, Germany was won by Norway’s Helene Marie Fossesholm in 13:49.1 minutes. Germany’s Lisa Lohmann placed second (+15.7), and Izabela Marcisz of Poland was third (+28.1).
Fossesholm was the top qualifier in Saturday’s skate sprint. She finished fifth overall in the sprint.
Sophia Laukli (Middlebury) was the top North American in 13th (+51.6). She was followed by teammates Kendall Kramer (Nordic Ski Club of Fairbanks) in 22nd (+58.4), Sydney Palmer-Leger (SVSEF) 43rd (+1:31.6), and Mara McCollor (Minneapolis Ski Club) 60th (+2:23).
Jasmine Drolet (Black Jack Ski Club) was the top Canadian in 32nd (+1:18.6). Molly Miller (Black Jack Ski Club) 47th (+1:41.5), Benita Peiffer (Whistler Nordic) 49th (+1:48.8), and Liliane Gagnon (Skibec Nordique)50th (+1:50.5).
Racing continues for the junior women and men on Wednesday with mass start skate races.
