  • 25th!

Today I turned 25. I had a wonderful day- skate rollerski in the morning, BBQ, a cake sent to me from my best friend Katie in California, wine and spending the day with Dan.

  • It’s been a while…

…But we’ve been busy training in the meantime.  This week we’re on a bit of a recovery week over the holiday, after completing our first big training week of the year.  We finished it off on Sunday with a 2:50 paddle upstream (2:00) and then down (:50) on the Chena River followed by a cookout to welcome our new assistant coach Nick Crawford.

I’ve got a bunch of photos from June that I’ll try to put up in the next few days, but for now I’ll leave you with a one from Sunday and one from this morning.

  • Pete’s Great Divide Race Ends Early

About a year ago at this time, Pete basically saved a girl’s life after her now-infamous bear attack in Anchorage. This year, Pete was on the other end of a nasty mountain bike accident.

  • July 1

48 Degrees, rain and wind. Happy July!

    FILE0010

On Sunday after a 3 hour classic rollerski with Laura Dewitt, Dan and I drove to the Twin Cities for a couple days. It was a short but good trip. I went on a nice road bike ride with my dad and I spent the majority of  Tuesday sleeping, reading and holding my parent’s couch to the floor. It was awesome.  The last two weeks of training were pretty intense with intervals and volume so I needed a couple days to recover. This week is a smaller training week with the focus being on easy training, technique work and level 3 intervals.

  • Post Op Appointment # 1

I just got home from my first post op appointment and got to see the pics of what went on inside my knee during the surgery. Pretty cool.  There must have been something on the lens because they are a little cloudy but I was able to see the FastFix anchor that they put in.  Hopefully I will be able to scan them in in the next day or so.

The swelling is coming down pretty well.  The port holes are closing up.  Now I can start to work my way back to life as it was.  I am still restricted from bending my knee past 90 degrees.  I got the o.k. to start easing my self off the crutches.

I took my first few steps unaided in a very long while.  It took a few tries to get the nerves up to commit to the leg. After a few tries, my muscles started to remember what their reason for existence  is and things started to fire.  I only let myself walk back and forth across the living room a few times. I don’t want to over do it the first day, so I’m back on the couch with my knee elevated and the polarcare keeping it cold. Just got a phone call, I guess I am going to be on my crutches until next Thursday, damn.

On another bright note, my port holes are almost completely healed up and after getting a new water running belt the other day, I am all ready to start rehabbing.  So, it looks like next Monday I will be in the pool and then if everything goes smoothly, I will be back to running on land the first week of August.

    Rehab, rehab, rehab…

  • Hammer Nutrition Care Package

I just got home from the Twin Cities and had a care package from my friends at Hammer Nutrition waiting for me.  Jason sent me a couple of things to help aide in my recovery, which is coming along pretty well and also very slowly.  I tore open the box to reveal a couple of no brainers, Tissue Rejuvenator and Hammer Balm.  If you’re injured and can’t wait to get back into action, or if you’re trying to prevent joint and tissue injuries, Tissue Rejuvenator is bound to help.  This will be my first shot at using the Hammer Balm, as it’s pretty new. I’m told  a little bit goes a really long way.  I’ll let you know how it works after using it for a bit.

  • Jaime’s First Post

Hey all,br /div style=”text-align: left;” So I have officially been given access to the Blog now…I hope I don’t disappoint. As always MOD has been focusing on technique interspersed throughout our intensity week and volume week. We’ve been doing some pretty amazing video analysis thanks to Pete Dickinson’s camera skills and the Dartfish Program. We’ve all gained from the immediate feedback and the ability to slow down the footage and really pick it apart. I’ve always had rather rough technique and so working extensively with video and the pointers from Scott and Pete has helped me pin-point the elements that need the most work. Basically, it all boils down to weight-shift or in my case the lack thereof. But with some determination, a lot of amusing drills, and continued support from Scott and Pete I’m sure I’ll be a balanced ballerina in no time!br /br /br /div style=”text-align: center;”span style=”font-weight: bold;font-size:130%;” Eric busting out some no pole/spanbr //divbr //divdiv style=”text-align: center;”object width=”320″ height=”266″ class=”BLOG_video_class” id=”BLOG_video-a57de2fd23ad3355″ classid=”clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000″ codebase=”http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=6,0,40,0″param name=”movie” value=”http://www.blogger.com/img/videoplayer.swf?videoUrl=http%3A%2F%2Fvp.video.google.com%2Fvideodownload%3Fversion%3D0%26secureurl%3DqAAAAP0YN7YpWvFNWPjMMOzGjlXVrsNvgTPb4GHZyWCbB7nJjl1utUyfssr76t90pwAzxxTMpzfXsU9XLmqiYKkL4ueWfgJoux1cfKsEulJbinbGooP-j7dyyZkWW7o5iVhIfAjpcOAwLV0okmemx9HEZB9ZxE4tVMu3q4gwbwnnx2Xxwz9w7v8ITwJHMviYToMemhrOHdqrzY3MTK5WHgRLTMn2oBviE67Usg6anhFon0R0%26sigh%3DdSBjw88_BgkHaG_Rs8MnqYFX12M%26begin%3D0%26len%3D86400000%26docid%3D0amp;nogvlm=1amp;thumbnailUrl=http%3A%2F%2Fvideo.google.com%2FThumbnailServer2%3Fapp%3Dblogger%26contentid%3Da57de2fd23ad3355%26offsetms%3D5000%26itag%3Dw320%26sigh%3DTnF0cz0EIsXYLqVmpCHdAvprYnYamp;messagesUrl=video.google.com%2FFlashUiStrings.xlb%3Fframe%3Dflashstrings%26hl%3Den”param name=”bgcolor” value=”#FFFFFF”embed width=”320″ height=”266″ src=”http://www.blogger.com/img/videoplayer.swf?videoUrl=http%3A%2F%2Fvp.video.google.com%2Fvideodownload%3Fversion%3D0%26secureurl%3DqAAAAP0YN7YpWvFNWPjMMOzGjlXVrsNvgTPb4GHZyWCbB7nJjl1utUyfssr76t90pwAzxxTMpzfXsU9XLmqiYKkL4ueWfgJoux1cfKsEulJbinbGooP-j7dyyZkWW7o5iVhIfAjpcOAwLV0okmemx9HEZB9ZxE4tVMu3q4gwbwnnx2Xxwz9w7v8ITwJHMviYToMemhrOHdqrzY3MTK5WHgRLTMn2oBviE67Usg6anhFon0R0%26sigh%3DdSBjw88_BgkHaG_Rs8MnqYFX12M%26begin%3D0%26len%3D86400000%26docid%3D0amp;nogvlm=1amp;thumbnailUrl=http%3A%2F%2Fvideo.google.com%2FThumbnailServer2%3Fapp%3Dblogger%26contentid%3Da57de2fd23ad3355%26offsetms%3D5000%26itag%3Dw320%26sigh%3DTnF0cz0EIsXYLqVmpCHdAvprYnYamp;messagesUrl=video.google.com%2FFlashUiStrings.xlb%3Fframe%3Dflashstrings%26hl%3Den” type=”application/x-shockwave-flash”/embed/object/divdiv class=”blogger-post-footer”img width=’1′ height=’1′ src=’https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/2910103639238326543-5125224173311638842?l=methowolympicdevelopment.blogspot.com’//div

  • Cookies

Last night Derek and I finally got out for a rollerski together. Derek and his wife moved this spring to a house only about 4 miles from mine, but it has taken us until last night to actually get out for a ski together (we have certainly talked about doing it a number of times before).br /div/divbr /divToday is actually Nichole’s 26th birthday (everyone wish her happy birthday!), but it is way too predictable to suprise her on her birthday (and you can’t suprise someone emafter /emtheir birthday, since then it just looks like you forgot), so last night I got home a bit before she did and got her gift out and started baking chocolate chip cookies (we have a long history of me providing cookies, just ask Brent). This was going great until I realized that we were out of chocholate chips. I raced over to the store, and was in the chocolate chip isle when my phone rang. At first I thought it was going to be Nichole telling me that she was almost home and my suprise would be ruined, but instead it was Derek asking if I wanted to rollerski. I raced back home, got the cookies in the oven, got my rollerski stuff on, got the cookies out of the oven, and was able to suprise Nichole when she got home. I then headed out for my ski with Derek. We did a nice little double pole together, were able to loop around to check out his house, and then we ended up back at my house for a water bottle fill-up and some fresh cookies. Very nice, since it is great to have someone to train with that is nearby. We will have to do that more often (including some runs in Lebanon Hills that Nichole will have to join us on too). /divbr /div/div

  • Young biathletes meet for first camp

A group of 20 young biathletes spent the weekend in Ft. Kent sharpening their shooting and athletic skills. The up and comers from both Aroostook County and the Southern Maine Biathlon Club spent a lot of time on the range shooting at cans, balloons, paintballs, and of course biathlon targets. They played games, worked through obstacle and agility courses, got stronger via strength circuits and learned how to rollerski.br /br /

  • U.S. Women’s Camp – Acadian Festival Bed Race

The ladies rode their bikes to Madawaska for their afternoon workout one day, but they also had other plans on their mind. The St. John Valley Acadian Festival was going on in Madawaska and one of the events was a bed race. Five person teams push their bed down Main Street with one person in a “onezie” (one piece pajama get up) and four people pushing, at the end of the street the “onezie” needs to be switched to another teammate and the bed pushed back to the start. The women performed valiantly winning the Women’s division! And if there was a “best dressed” category they would’ve won that too.br /br /

  • U.S. Women’s Camp – Lake Placid to Ft. Kent

The U.S. Women’s Biathlon Team is spending two weeks of their three week camp in Ft. Kent. After one week at the Olympic Training Center in Lake Placid, NY the women headed north. With the addition of some athletes from the Maine Winter Sports Center and the U.S. Development Team, each training has seen around a dozen athletes working together. The 30-point range and over 3km’s of paved trails provides for some really good workouts where the ladies can ski and shoot together, raising the competitive level of each individual and the group as a whole.br /br /
